KSMC Strategic Plan

KSMC Strategic Plan

A multi-stage development of King Saud Medical City began in 2013. The new hospital complex replaces the oldest medical city in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It includes the construction of a new trauma center serving the entire region; It is considered the first of its kind in the medical city. The master plan includes 1,000 rooms per patient in two new medical towers, and the first phase includes a surgical tower above the Diagnostic and Examination (D+I) building with 480 private inpatient rooms designed for maximum flexibility to accommodate a wide range of acuteness requirements.

“The development addresses the challenges of expanding a fully functional medical city while minimizing the impact of critical operations,” says Ahmed Sweid, the project’s executive director, “as it meets global standards in the delivery of care and serves a new generation of patients and medical professionals.” The entire building has been designed to conform to the existing Islamic architecture of the old city design, allowing patients' visibility, and maximizing shading for the new pedestrian plaza.

(All new city buildings will be organized around this central square.) Where there will be walking paths linking each building to another, all of these paths will be shaded by trees to make pedestrian movement between the buildings possible even during the summer period. In addition, the buildings provide enough to irrigate green spaces, fill swimming pools, and feed waterways and fountains.
